Mimi + Me: Tosca Laurent

Mimi + Me: Tosca Laurent

Tosca Laurent

Lives in New York City, West Village

April 23, 2018

Tosca is a little gem.

Sweet, ambitious and smart.

When I met her, she was very clear that she had aspirations of becoming a model or an actress, and with her soft and charming beauty, I couldn't see why not.

People often think that models have to be beautiful, and believe that is what we as designers are looking for, when we employ them, but great models go beyond beauty.  They project themselves and bring out the beauty of your brand.   Of course all designers have different tastes.  I like models with striking beauty over classic beauty, and yes that means different things to different people.  I'm not looking for pretty.  I'm looking for uniqueness, elegance and amazing posture.  I like women who radiate confidence and evoke some kind of desire, they must make you dream.

With her modern day mix of early Bridget Bardot meets the 'girl next door,'  Tosca is well on her way to inspire beauty and rule the runways of the world.

Tosca wears our silk gazaar dress with contrast collar and cut bead hand embroidery inspired by the beautiful Sudano-Sahelian architecture of Mali.

From April 9th through May 2018, get to know some beautiful and inspirational women as we launch and reveal the stunning portraits shot by photographer Emmanuel André for our new women's online platform for disruptive women of style, "Mimi + Me".

Three years ago, we met photographer by night, Emmanuel André and immediately joined forces to create a series of photographs celebrating the Mimi Plange woman.
Mimi + Me was born.
-We invited a group of amazing women to a photo studio in NYC, but did not tell them why
-We presented each of them our entire collection and let them choose which outfit they wanted to wear for their photoshoot
-We provided hair and makeup to compliment their look
-We asked them all a few fun questions

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Tosca:  Being with my family and the people I love and doing all the things that I love.

What is your favorite word?

Tosca:  My favorite word would be ‘Happy’ because I love the way it sounds and I’m happy most of the time.

What is your least favorite word?

Tosca:   My least favorite word would be ‘dull’ maybe because it’s a boring word.

What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?

Tosca:  Right now I am a student, but I would love to be a model or a photographer because I love to travel around the world and take pictures of what I find to be beautiful.

Which talent would you most like to have?

Tosca:  I would love to become an actress or a model.

What profession would you not like?

Tosca:  I wouldn’t want to become a Math teacher. I don’t like Math. I just don’t understand Math.

Thank you Tosca for your beauty!

A very special thank you to photographer Emmanuel André for a beautiful collaboration.
