Mimi Plange has joined forces with Carol Muthiga-Oyekunle, a Kenyan-American artist and accessories designer to collaborate on the brand's very first limited edition eyewear design. Carol's work as a fashion accessories designer is influenced by her former career in graphic design. "The notions of camouflage, defense, duality, masquerade and ‘hiding in plain sight’ are essentially what eyewear design denotes for me, " says Carol. Carol merges heritage, culture, ancient architecture, sacred geometry, technology and sustainability into her designs. "The human sense of sight goes far and beyond the physical realm. We have the ability to tap into our “third eye” (the eye of insight and higher consciousness) that intrinsically connects us all to the universe and each other." For this modern geometric style eyewear, Carol drew upon diverse influences from her Kenyan Agikuyu culture, and specifically the notion of the Woman as a symbolic warrior, where the eyewear becomes her shield. The Mimi Plange + Lolita Lorenzo Limited Edition Eyewear encompasses the design ethos of both brands. The sunglasses are hand-crafted by skilled artisans in France using Mazzucchelli acetate.
